Using musical theatre as the warp and Beijing opera as the weft, this performance weaves a bridge across time to explore various facets of the classic "Legend of the White Snake”.
"Green. White: A Moment's Thought" builds on this classic tale, delving into the past and present lives of its characters to explore the paths their fates might have taken. It looks at the story from the perspectives of humans and spirits, revealing the complexity of human nature. What if Qing, the green snake, gave different advice? What if Bai, the white snake, made different decisions? What if Xu Xian unwaveringly trusted his wife, and Fa Hai wasn’t confined by stereotypes about spirits? Could this thousand-year-old tragedy be rewritten?
Flutist Hua Pei and Peking opera star Anli- Zhu portray Qing(Green Snake) and Bai(White Snake), respectively. With compositions by Kangqi- Huang, blending Eastern and Western culture, modern and traditional music, this performance crosses the boundaries between instrumental music and Peking opera. Directed by Bohan-Yang, it merges musical theatre and Peking opera, inviting the audience to explore the choices of fate.
